ALS Association Certified Treatment Center of Excellence

The Department of Neurology ALS Association (ALSA) Program, led by Dr. Neil Shneider, has been designated a Certified Treatment Center of Excellence, in recognition of the outstanding, integrated amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research and clinical program Dr. Shneider and team have built in recent years.  Combined with the department’s MDA/ALS Program, the Division of Neuromuscular Medicine, led by Dr. Michio Hirano, now cares for over 400 ALS patients in the New York region.  Through the additional efforts of Drs. Jinsy Andrews and Matthew Harms, the ALS program at Columbia is a major center for ALS clinical trials in the U.S. and a key player in ALS genomics, respectively.
